This excellent, comprehensive one-day IOSH Approved DSE Assessor Training course will equip your employees with the skills and knowledge they need to confidently carry out workstation risk assessments within your workplace.

The DSE Assessor Training course can be delivered anywhere in the UK and is approved by IOSH, so you can rest assured it meets the highest continuing professional development standards.

The course is delivered by Chartered Physiotherapist, Angela Hinton. Angela has delivered DSE training for over ten years and carries out workstation assessments for HMRC, UK Border Force and other major companies across the UK.

On completion of the course, your employees will be able to:

  • Confidently carry out effective DSE assessments in accordance with the DSE regulations

  • Comply with UK DSE legislation, including legislation around mobile workers, homeworkers and expectant mothers

  • Reduce absenteeism and increase morale amongst your workforce

  • Understand how and why potential problems can be caused by work tasks and the workstation

  • Rectify incorrect sitting postures and understand which equipment is best suited for different types of issues

  • Minimise strain in the body, e.g. knowing how to use physiotherapy-style exercises to prevent musculoskeletal issues arising and ease existing issues

  • Use the correct tools to record DSE assessments in order to comply with DSE regulations

In-house DSE Assessor Training course

The course is delivered at your premises, so you don’t need to travel.  It’s ideal if your organisation needs to train more than one employee to become a DSE Assessor as you can be sure they’re trained to the same high standard at the same time.

How long is the course?

One day (6 hours teaching time).

Who is the course for?

The IOSH Approved DSE Assessor Training course is for anyone who has been nominated to carry out workstation risk assessments on behalf of their company, e.g. occupational health advisers, line managers, supervisors, HR officers or health and safety officers.

Who teaches the course?

Angela Hinton MCSP HPC, a Chartered Physiotherapist with over 24 years of experience of treating musculoskeletal and work-based injuries. Angela regularly carries out standard and advanced DSE risk assessments for companies across the country, including the DWP, UK Border Force and HMRC.

How is the course delivered?

The course is both theory-based and practical.

Throughout the day, your employees will be tested with open questions, group discussions and demonstrations. To help them embed their knowledge and increase their confidence in their new skills, they’ll carry out a mock DSE assessment under the supervision of the trainer.

End of course assessment

Participants will complete two assessment papers at the end of the day.

A comprehensive training manual will be provided along with a customisable electronic assessment form template for your employees to adapt and use when conducting their own assessments.

What does the course cover?

  • Health and safety (Display Screen Equipment) regulations

  • Responsibilities of the DSE Assessor

  • Anatomy – related to using display screen equipment

  • Musculoskeletal injuries (avoiding and managing them)

  • Correct postural alignment when sitting in a chair at the workstation

  • Suitability of DSE equipment, including screens, chairs, desks, mice, keyboards and laptops

  • Pregnancy, Homeworkers and people with disabilities

  • DSE assessments (two papers)
